The North Texas Chapter of the Information Security Systems Association donated $35,000 to Collin College for cybersecurity student scholarships on Jan. 19.
As reported by Collin College, for several years, North Texas ISSA has had cybersecurity conferences at the college, and the cooperation between the campus and the information security group has grown.
Collin College Program Director for Cybersecurity Ervin Frenzel looks forward to the extension of the academic community.
“We are happy to have North Texas ISSA as not only a sponsor but also a partner who assists our student body grow to meet the needs of the community,” Frenzel said.
In recent years, Collin College has made numerous achievements.
Collin College began offering a new Bachelor of Applied Technology in Cybersecurity at the Frisco Campus's cutting-edge IT Center in the spring of 2020. Since then, the college has received recognition for the cybersecurity program, including being named a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense by the National Security Agency (NSA) last spring, and validation of the college's Associate of Applied Science in Information Systems Cybersecurity curriculum through 2027, according to Collin College. This May, the first class that enrolled in the program will be graduating.
In addition, Frenzel encourages the student body to continue learning and experiencing to reach new heights of cybersecurity.
“We look forward to continued expansion of our partnership to include more of the regional and national level expectations demanded of the cybersecurity professionals," Frenzel said. "The only way to do this, for our student body, is to learn from not only our instructors but also from those experienced practitioners currently serving within our regional community.”
