McKinney Independent School District (MISD) has announced the appointment of Jeff Banner as its Executive Director of Secondary School Leadership. The announcement was made on May 8, with Banner set to transition from his current role as principal of Plano Senior High School in Plano ISD.

With 18 years of experience in education, including 13 years in administrative roles, Banner brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his new position. As Executive Director of Secondary School Leadership, he will be tasked with supporting and guiding MISD's secondary principals.

Banner, who has resided in McKinney for the past decade, expressed his excitement about joining the MISD family. "I am extremely humbled and honored to join the MISD family," he said. "I am thrilled to support and lead our secondary administrators to best serve students, staff and the community. As a proud parent of two MISD students, I am excited to now call MISD home!"

His career began in 2006 as a middle school teacher and coach at Frankford Middle School in Plano ISD. He quickly ascended through the ranks, serving as campus athletic coordinator before transitioning into administration as the middle school Dean of Students.

In 2013, Banner moved to Jasper High School as an assistant principal before being appointed principal of Shepton High School three years later. After five successful years at Shepton, he was selected for his most recent role as principal of Plano Senior High School.

During his tenure as a campus principal, Banner worked diligently to foster positive relationships and increase student involvement by creating a more intimate campus environment. He also focused on aligning instructional practices and expectations to improve student outcomes.

"Ultimately," he said, "I believe that we need to ensure that all students have a viable post-secondary plan and that we equip them with the resources they need to carry out that plan."

Banner holds a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from the University of Texas, a master’s degree in athletic training from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Lamar University.
