The McKinney Independent School District (MISD) held its 2024 Distinguished Student Awards Dinner on Wednesday, May 8, at the MISD Community Event Center. The annual event was attended by district officials, teachers, principals, community leaders, students and family members.
The Distinguished Student Awards (DSA) dinner is a spring tradition in which 45 outstanding seniors from McKinney Boyd High School, McKinney High School and McKinney North High School are recognized for their academic achievements and dedication in specific areas such as English, Science, Social Studies, Mathematics, Career & Technology, Foreign Language, Fine Arts or Athletics. At-Large honorees and the Valedictorian and Salutatorian are also acknowledged during this event.
MISD Superintendent Shawn Pratt expressed his fondness for the event saying: “Our Distinguished Student Dinner is one of my favorite events of the year. We celebrate distinguished students from each high school in many different categories. They in turn celebrate a teacher who has been inspirational in their educational journey. So, in one night we celebrate some of our best students and teachers.”
The award recipients were chosen by faculty at their respective schools. Each student then had the opportunity to honor one teacher who had made a significant impact on them throughout their academic career with the MISD Inspirational Teacher Award.
The evening's proceedings began once all guests were seated after dinner. The list of honorees included students excelling in various disciplines and their inspirational teachers.
