Community members interested in making an impact on Frisco ISD have several options, including volunteering with the District or participating in FISD Insight. They can also join a district committee, for which applications are now open.
District committees—composed of parents, students, community members, and District staff—cover various topics such as calendars, school safety, curriculum, and legislative priorities. Their input has significantly shaped the District both in the short and long term.
Each committee’s purpose, membership details, commitment requirements, and term limits are outlined on the District website. The term lengths and limits vary for each committee, as does the number of representatives from each stakeholder group.
The committees under the District Advisory Council include:
- **District Goals Committee**: Provides insight and feedback on the District’s goals for the year.
- **Federal Programs Committee**: Offers timely consultation regarding planning and decision-making related to specific federal grant programs.
- **District Bond Committee**: Receives updates on bond program implementation and provides feedback.
- **Special Education Parent Advisory Committee**: Learns about local special education practices and services while providing input on initiatives. Membership is limited to parents of students receiving 504 or special education services.
- **Career & Technology Education Committee**: Provides recommendations on CTE curriculum.
- **Gifted & Talented Advisory Committee**: Offers feedback on GT Curriculum. Membership is limited to parents of students enrolled in FISD GT courses and FISD teachers of GT courses.
- **Calendars Committee**: Develops a recommended school calendar for the following year.
Other committees include:
- Legislative Leadership Committee
- Library Reconsideration Committee
- Safety and Security Committee
- School Health Advisory Council
- Student Advisory Council
Additionally, there is a new Board Leadership Academy designed for community members interested in serving on the Frisco ISD School Board who want to learn more about board member responsibilities.
Frisco ISD uses one application for all committees. The application period opens Aug. 1 and closes at midnight Aug. 23. Selected applicants will be notified by the end of September. Those not selected will remain in an applicant pool for potential vacancies throughout the year.
Apply for a committee now to contribute to shaping Frisco ISD's future.
