Last fall, Frisco ISD celebrated the recognition of 113 students as National Merit Semifinalists, marking the highest number for any Texas school district. Of these, 32 students have been awarded National Merit $2,500, Honorary Merit, or corporate-sponsored scholarships by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. This figure represents the highest number of recipients in the state.

The District anticipates additional winners when college-sponsored National Merit Scholarships are announced this summer. All 12 high schools within Frisco ISD are represented on the scholarship list.

The current year's National Merit Scholarship Program commenced in October 2022 when juniors took the Preliminary SAT (PSAT) as an initial screening tool. The PSAT is offered each fall to all 10th and 11th-grade Frisco ISD students at no cost during the school day.

National Merit Scholarship recipients are selected from a pool of 15,000 finalists based on their accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies. An Honorary Merit Scholarship award indicates that a student's educational plans or other awards preclude them from receiving a monetary scholarship.
