The Frisco Independent School District (Frisco ISD) swimmers and divers showcased their talent at the University Interscholastic League's (UIL) State Championships this month. The competitions took place with Panther Creek participating in the Class 4A state meet on February 14-15 in San Antonio, while other Frisco ISD state qualifiers competed in the 5A meet on February 21-22 in Austin.
In total, Frisco ISD athletes qualified for the state finals in 48 events, securing medals in nine events and claiming two state championships. Several teams also achieved high rankings.
The Reedy girls' team, who previously won the 5A state title in 2024, finished as runners-up this year with a score of 173 points, narrowly missing first place by three points to Boerne Champion. The Wakeland boys' team secured third place with a total of 177.5 points, just behind the champions by a margin of 2.5 points. Other notable performances included Centennial and Wakeland girls' teams finishing eighth and ninth respectively, while Reedy boys finished eighth, Heritage tenth, and Centennial eleventh.
Wakeland senior Jackson Armour was recognized as the 5A Swimmer of the Meet after setting records and winning both the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard breaststroke. Additionally, Reedy coach Jenny Beagle received honors as the National Federation of High Schools Sectional Girls Swimming & Diving Coach of the Year for the previous season.
Jackson Armour from Wakeland emerged as a state champion in both boys' 5A categories: the 200 IM and the 100 breaststroke. Ellyette Kohlschmidt from Lone Star earned a bronze medal in girls' 1-meter diving at the same level. Isa Henderson from Reedy secured a silver medal in girls' 500 freestyle while Kurt Owens also from Reedy claimed bronze in boys' backstroke event. Charlie Wang from Wakeland took home bronze for his performance in boys’ breaststroke.
In Class 4A competitions, Camille Thelen from Panther Creek earned silver in girls’ freestyle along with Arielle Ngero’s silver finish for her diving skills. Furthermore, Panther Creek’s girls’ relay team consisting of Cora Eckard, Camille Thelen Cuba Eckard Kiersten Wallace captured bronze during their medley relay event.
