It was a significant night for Frisco ISD soccer, although the outcomes varied for the district's teams. The Wakeland girls' soccer team secured a spot in the 5A Division II state semifinals with a 2-0 victory over Lovejoy. Meanwhile, the Heritage boys' soccer team ended their playoff journey with a 3-1 defeat against Prosper Walnut Grove in the 5A Division I Region 2 championship.
Heritage made history with their deepest playoff run. They initially led the game with a goal by MJ Brady, assisted by Hayden Gibb. However, Prosper Walnut Grove, unbeaten this season, equalized before halftime. They took the lead midway through the second half, and added a late goal when Heritage pushed players forward in pursuit of an equalizer.
The Wakeland team, reigning as the 5A state champion, scored both goals in a commanding first half. Dilan Pistorius opened the scoring with a penalty, followed by Audrey Gilbert finding the net by deflecting a cleared attempt from a free kick by Emma Sapp.
Wakeland will next compete against Grapevine in the 5A Division I state semifinal. Details on scheduling and tickets will be forthcoming as the teams aim to reach the 5A Division I state championship on Friday, April 11.
